Finding the square

East Bohemia, below a Renaissance chateau

Under the chateau hill

Litomyšl is a small East Bohemian town on the river Loučná, halfway between Prague and Brno. Its market square, Smetanovo náměstí, runs for about half a kilometre with arcades along both sides, and the Renaissance chateau with its sgraffito walls looks down on it from the hill. Cat Mitty Hotel is on the square itself.

By car

Prague is roughly two hours away by motorway and main road, Brno about an hour and a half, Pardubice under an hour. The square has short-stay parking in front of the arcades; the desk will tell you where to leave the car overnight and send someone down with a trolley for the bags.

By train and coach

Litomyšl has no main-line station of its own. Trains on the Prague to Brno and Olomouc lines stop at Choceň and Česká Třebová, and a regional bus covers the last stretch in about twenty minutes. Direct coaches from Prague reach the bus station, which is a few minutes on foot from the square.

By air

The usual airport is Prague. For a Cat Mitty tour none of this is your problem: the group meets at the hotel the evening before, and our minibus goes to the airport and back.
