This is an approximate figure, with flights and the nights listed below. The manager confirms the final price when you request the tour, since it can move with dates, flights and the number of travellers.

Paros is the Cyclades for people who find the postcard islands a little too loud. The harbours of Parikia and Naoussa still work, the lanes are painted with chalk every spring and the beaches have a few sunbeds, not hundreds. Antiparos, a ten-minute ferry away, is smaller and sleepier still.

We spend five days at an easy pace: one outing a day, a long lunch, and a swim if the weather says yes. The cat colonies of the harbours are well organised and take our arrival as a sign that dinner is coming.

The ribbon of days

1

Parikia at sunset

Flight to Athens, then the ferry to Paros and a walk through Parikia’s lanes to the sea wall and the old harbour. Dinner is fish at a harbour table, with a view of the ferry coming and going.

2

Naoussa and its boats

A short bus ride to Naoussa, a fishing port with painted caiques and a ring of tavernas. We have a boat morning with a swim and a lunch of octopus, and an afternoon on the rocks.

3

Lefkes and the old road

In the mountains of Paros we walk the Byzantine road from Lefkes to Prodromos, past figs and chapels, with a coffee at a square that has one tree and two cats.

4

Marpissa and the monastery

A slow day inland, in Marpissa, a village of white arches and a hilltop monastery. A free afternoon is yours for a beach or a book.

5

Antiparos and farewell

A short ferry to Antiparos for a last morning of coffee, a lane walk and a swim, then back to Paros and the ferry to Athens for the evening flight to Prague.
